Attorney charged with stealing from nonprofit

A lawyer is charged with theft and money laundering for allegedly stealing more than $60,000 from an Illinois non-profit organization. The Riverwoods Police Department issued an arrest warrant for 66-year-old Terry Campo, who recently turned himself in at the Lake County Jail. Police said the Illinois House Foundation dissolved and the president authorized Campo to transfer funds to a similar foundation led by Campo in Washington D.C., but police said he deposited the money into his own account.

Firefighters recognized for helping marathon runner

Two central Illinois firefighters are being recognized for the rescue of a marathon participant who went into cardiac arrest during a race Saturday. Calvin Kerns of the Urbana Fire Department and Sean Manuel of the Champaign Fire Department were dispatched to a park to respond to a man who went into cardiac arrest while participating in the race. They found the man lying on the trail without a pulse. After CPR was administered, the man became alert again and was taken to the hospital.

Suburban carnival shut down after overcrowding

A carnival in Lake in the Hills was shut down Saturday night due to unruly crowds. Multiple fights broke out, but there were no reports of gunshots or injuries. The Lake in the Hills Chamber of Commerce said the unexpected surge in attendance, fueled by pleasant weather, led to overcrowding, including a large number of unchaperoned teens.
