Illinois quick hits: Alleged ICE attacker charged; ComEd closes relief fund applications; gray fox hunting closed

Alleged ICE attacker charged

A federal grand jury has indicted a man accused of assaulting three law enforcement officers at the Kane County Sheriff’s Department in St. Charles, Illinois.

Prosecutors say Francisco Javier Acevedo-Caldera, 39, attacked two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and a Kane County Sheriff’s deputy who offered to assist them with Acevedo-Caldera’s arrest warrant.

The suspect is in federal custody.

ComEd closes relief fund applications

ComEd has closed applications for its customer relief fund due to high demand.

The utility announced the $10 million relief fund last month, when rates increased for many Illinoisans.

ComEd said customers who already applied will be notified of a decision once their applications are reviewed.

Gray fox hunting closed

Gray fox hunting in Illinois is closed effective immediately. That’s the message from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

The agency said survey results indicate a substantial decline in gray fox distribution and abundance in the last decade.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a measure last month giving IDNR the ability to open or close the season by administrative rule.
