Bears’ property tax valuation
The Cook County Board has reportedly refused to lower the valuation placed on the former Arlington Racecourse property by the county assessor’s office. The land was purchased by the Chicago Bears as a possible location for a new stadium complex.
The Daily Herald reports the board endorsed the county assessor’s valuation of $192 million for the land with a yearly tax bill of about $15 million. The board is giving the Bears until Saturday to reach an agreement with local school districts on a lower figure.
Communities address possible migrant drop offs
Southern Illinois counties continue to address the possibility of migrants being dropped off in their communities.
This week, the Johnson County sheriff asked the county board to pass an ordinance requiring prior notification before any migrant is dropped off. The city of Aurora passed an ordinance requiring at least five days notice to the city before any drop off.
More than 35,000 migrants have been sent to Illinois since 2022.
Snow forecasted
Most of Illinois will get a dose of winter Friday with the return of snow. Coverage will likely increase through the morning commute into the late morning before the snow gradually comes to an end.
Some areas could see 2 inches of snow, while most will receive 1 inch or less. Temperatures are expected to return to the above normal range next week.
