Biden protested during Chicago fundraiser

Protestors blocked streets Wednesday as President Joe Biden came to Chicago for a campaign fundraiser. The president was in the city for about four hours as he attended the fundraiser at the Palmer House Hilton.

A line of police blocked protestors from accessing the entrance of the hotel. The pro-Palestinian demonstrators are critical of Biden’s support of Israel. Biden said he would halt some shipments of weapons to Israel if there is a major invasion of the city of Rafah.

Mail processing facilities to close

The United States Postal Service says they’re progressing toward closing Springfield’s mail processing center and moving operations to St. Louis. For weeks, elected officials and employees have criticized the proposal.

Springfield’s is one of 58 sites around the country that are expected to shut down. Champaign, Quad Cities and Peoria are also expected to lose their sites and will have their mail processed in larger cities.

Crayfish warning

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is reminding the public and seafood distributors that importing and possessing live red swamp crayfish, also known as Louisiana crawfish, is prohibited by law in Illinois. The crustaceans are a popular choice for live crawfish boils.

Illinois is one of numerous states, including Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan, that prohibit the sale or possession of live red swamp crayfish to prevent the spread of aquatic nuisance species. Officials said red swamp crayfish are highly invasive and harmful to the environment if released.
