Chicago mayor meets with state officials

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson met with legislative leaders and the governor’s office at the Illinois State Capitol Wednesday.

Johnson’s priorities range from more state taxpayer money for Chicago Public Schools, transit and even a deal for the Chicago Bears proposed domed lakefront stadium, which could include assistance from taxpayers.

Illinois sells $1.8 billion in bonds

Gov. J.B. Pritzker is touting a successful sale of $1.8 billion in bonds for Illinois general obligations.

The debt sale to bond buyers will be used for capital projects, including projects authorized by the 2019 multi-year Rebuild Illinois capitol program funded with tax hikes and fee increases. Interest for the debt is 4.27%.

Man sentenced to prison for illegal firearms sale

A man convicted of selling seven firearms to an undercover law enforcement agent has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison.

Prosecutors announced a federal judge sentenced Jesus Sanchez for the sales that took place in Chicago from April to June 2023. Agents further found magazines and ammunition at Sanchez’s residence, where he fled and threw another firearm into a neighbor’s backyard.
