Chicago Teachers Union demands estimated at $50 billion

The Chicago Teachers Union is facing mounting criticism over its latest demands.

A copy of the union’s proposal for a new collective bargaining agreement revealed over 700 demands, including 9% annual pay increases until 2028, and providing $2,000 per child to migrant families to aid in resettlement.

The Illinois Policy Institute estimated that the cost of the demands is over $50 billion.

Health care network hit with cyber security event

The Ascension Healthcare Network announced Wednesday that its clinical operations were disrupted by what officials are calling a cyber security event. In a news release, Ascension said it responded immediately.

On Thursday, a company spokesperson said hospitals in Illinois didn’t have any patient care service interruptions, but IT service was affected. Ascension is one of the nation’s leading nonprofit and Catholic health systems.

Settling with wireless companies

Attorney General Kwame Raoul has announced his office along with 49 other state attorneys general have reached a settlement agreement with several wireless carriers over misleading advertising practices.

The investigation focused on the wireless carriers’ advertisements offering unlimited data, free phones, wireless network switch incentives and comparing carrier plans.

In total, Illinois will receive about $387,000 as part of the settlement with AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile.
