City, mayor face lawsuit of discrimination with casino
The city of Chicago, its mayor and Bally’s Chicago Operating Company are being sued to challenge a contract that imposes explicit race-based and sex-based quotas on an upcoming casino project. Mark Glennon from Wirepoints is being represented by the Liberty Justice Center. Glennon says Bally’s is selling shares only to women and minorities in its new gambling resort being built in Chicago. The lawsuit alleges a blatant, overt violation of constitutional and statutory nondiscrimination law.
Chicago resident asked to limit water use
Chicagoans were asked to hold off on showers and limit water use Thursday after an Overflow Action Alert was issued. The alert was issued ahead of expected rainfall in the Chicago area in an effort to prevent overflowing of the city’s sewer systems. Due to recent frigid temperatures, frozen ground can stymie water absorption during rainfall, leading to a risk of basement flooding and sewer overflows. Officials advise Chicago residents to limit any unnecessary water use over the next 48 to 72 hours.
Illinois among ‘luckiest’ states for lottery players
A new analysis of state lottery data revealed the luckiest states for players, with Illinois making the top ten. McLuck, a social casino website, looked at 2023 lottery data from states that provide prize information. Illinois was in eighth place with an average of just over $256,0000 per draw. Ohio took the top spot with over $992,000 per draw.
