Illinois quick hits: Dolton mayor used wrong credit card; Woodford County declares non-sanctuary status

Dust storms impact travel

Several interstates around Illinois were shut down Tuesday after high winds caused dust storms.

Interstate 55 near McLean was closed during the afternoon, and I-74 between Leroy and Farmer City shut down because of dust plumes.

During the evening, Interstate 155 near Hopedale closed because of brownout conditions. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph were reported throughout parts of Illinois.

Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard may have billed the wrong taxpayers for a pricey political trip.

Henyard was in Washington D.C. in January to attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors annual winter meeting. According to Fox 32, Henyard billed taxpayers over $9,000 for the trip, but may have used the wrong credit card.

The trip was billed to Thornton Township, a completely separate government body where Henyard also serves as a township supervisor.

Woodford County declares non-sanctuary status

Illegal immigrants will not be welcome in one central Illinois county after a resolution passed by a county board Tuesday.

The resolution declares Woodford a non-sanctuary county and states that taxpayer funds will not be spent on migrants transported from the southern U.S. border. No such migrants have arrived in Woodford County.
