DUI charges after fatal crashA Chicago man is facing charges after a deadly weekend crash on Interstate 55 that left a Marine veteran dead.Illinois State Police said several people were attempting to change a tire when a pickup truck swerved off the roadway and struck the vehicle. Nikolas Hutto was hospitalized and later pronounced dead.Octavio Chavez, the driver of the pickup, suffered minor injuries and is now charged with aggravated DUI involving death. SIU freezes tuition The Southern Illinois University System will not increase undergraduate tuition rates at its Carbondale and Edwardsville campuses in the 2024-25 school year.The SIU Board of Trustees voted to freeze tuition rates during its meeting in Carbondale Thursday. The SIU System has not raised the undergraduate tuition rate in seven years.Agrichemical recycling The Illinois Department of Agriculture encourages farmers and agrichemical facilities to take part in a free agrichemical container recycling program.Beginning in the middle of July and continuing into August, sites throughout the state will collect containers that are recycled to make shipping pallets. Collection sites will accept only high-density, No. 2 plastic agrichemical containers that are clean and dry.Participants are responsible for removing all caps, valves, metal, labels and foil seals. Participants are also responsible for cutting off the top and bottom of plastic drums and cutting the side of the drum from top to bottom.
