Police learned that Energy Mayor Bengi McGee had been battered by a passing motorist. The 74-year-old was treated at a nearby hospital for lacerations to his face and head.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said the suspected attacker, John Alexander, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of aggravated battery.

A building at an airport in McHenry County was damaged after a crash involving a plane on Wednesday.

The crash took place at Dacy Airport in Harvard. It is unclear what led to the crash.

The family-owned airport, which has a grass strip field, opened in 1945.

Rejected vanity plates

More than 300 personalized and vanity license plate requests in Illinois were rejected last year.

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said of the over 60,000 requests, 335 were denied because of their inflammatory or offensive nature, or because they were difficult to read.

Some of the rejected requests include MUNCH, JAGWEED, and WEENIE. Others, like MWMWMW and OOQQOO were rejected because Giannoulias said they are difficult to read and could pose problems for law enforcement.
