Highland Park shooting trial postponed

A judge has postponed the trial of the man accused of killing seven people at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park.

The trial for Robert Crimo III was slated to begin next month. His lawyer on Wednesday asked for more time to review evidence. Crimo fired his public defenders in December and said he planned to represent himself. He then rehired his lawyers last week.

Multistate ATM robberies

A fifth person is being charged with conspiring to rob automated teller machines in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa.

Federal prosecutors said the gang originated in Texas and used chains to connect the ATMs to stolen pickup trucks to break into the machines and steal the money. The two banks that were targeted in Illinois were in Countryside and Glen Ellyn.

The latest suspect was arrested last month in Houston. The four other defendants have pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial.

Lollapalooza pays park district

A popular summer music festival helped give a boost to the Chicago Park District’s revenues last year.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Lollapalooza organizer C3 Presents paid $9.6 million in fees to use Grant Park for the four-day festival. Part of the boost is being credited to a new contract, which allowed organizers to sell tickets to 15,000 additional attendees per day.
