Illinois 3rd highest in police settlements

At more than $330 million in police settlements since 2009, Illinois had the third-highest amount in the country.

New data analyzed by pre-settlement legal funding company High Rise Financial placed Illinois behind New York’s $1 billion in settlements and California’s $332 million.

The total since 2009 nationwide is more than $2.3 billion to settle cases of police misconduct like excessive use of force, unlawful arrests and abuse of power.

About 750,000 pounds of the invasive silver carp were removed from the Upper Illinois River by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and contracted commercial fishers and biologists.

The 10-day harvest operation spanned between Nov. 27 and Dec. 6. A statement from IDNR said the agency believes it’s the largest single removal effort of freshwater fish in the United States.

Deer harvest numbers in

Illinois hunters harvested more than 76,200 deer during firearm deer season that wrapped up Dec. 3.

That’s just shy of the more than 76,800 deer taken in the 2022 firearm season. Randolf County had the most deer harvest at 2,174. Adams County came in second with 2,134.
