Illinois Quick Hits: Illinois 9th shows tight races

(The Center Square) – Illinois’ ninth congressional district looks to have stiff competition on both sides of the aisle.

Everton Mayor Daniel Biss and content creator Kat Abughazaleh were neck-in-neck all night long.

By late Tuesday, Biss was up with 29.8% of the vote followed closely by Abughazaleh with 25.7%.

COMPTROLLER RACE

The Democratic primary for comptroller was a tight race Tuesday.

State Rep. Margaret Croke, endorsed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker, led the entire night, though only by a few points. State Sen. Karina Villa, maintained a close second the whole night.

The winner of the Democrat primary race will face the uncontested Republican candidate, Bryan Drew, an attorney from Southern Illinois, in November.

LEGISLATURE RETURNS

The Illinois House returns to Springfield on Wednesday after taking several weeks off.

Scheduled are committee hearings focused on elementary and secondary education appropriations, ethics and elections, utilities, energy and environment and revenue and finance, among others.

The Senate returns next week. Both chambers have a May 31 adjournment date for when a budget must be passed with simple majorities.
