LaHood seeks to block Gotion tax credits

A new bill sponsored by Illinois Congressman Darin LaHood aims to prevent battery parts manufacturer Gotion, Inc. from receiving federal tax credits.

LaHood said the legislation is in response to Gotion, an American subsidiary of a Chinese-based company, planning to build factories in Manteno, Illinois, and Michigan, that would qualify for the tax credits under the federal Inflation Reduction Act.

Police sued over raid

A lawsuit has been filed in connection with a police raid in Joliet two years ago.

Police had an arrest warrant for a man wanted for questioning about a shooting. According to the lawsuit, they had the wrong address and the man in question was found next door.

The family that filed the lawsuit said they were held for about six hours by police. Twenty-two defendants are being sued, including Joliet police and U.S. Marshalls.

Change clock, check alarms

The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal reminds residents with the end of daylight saving time to test, inspect and replace any broken or expired smoke and carbon monoxide alarms while they change their clocks this weekend.

Smoke alarms only have a life span of 10 years before they need to be replaced. If your alarm was manufactured before October 2013, it’s time to replace that alarm with a 10-year sealed battery device.

The time falls back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday.
