Man charged in nursing home death
Murder charges have been filed against a 71-year-old man who allegedly killed a fellow nursing home resident in Joliet.
Joliet police report William Paschall allegedly beat a 61-year-old man to death in the laundry room of the nursing home after he became angry about how the victim was using the washing machine.
According to police, Paschall allegedly struck the victim several times and used the victim’s walker during the attack.
Dogs at risk of respiratory illness
A mysterious respiratory illness has sickened dogs in several U.S. states, including Illinois, as veterinarians encourage dog owners to exercise caution and limit contact with other dogs.
According to officials, the pneumonia-like illness begins as a cough and gradually worsens and can become fatal. Officials said that dogs are most likely to contract the illness by coming into contact with other dogs, with places such as dog parks, kennels and groomers posing a larger risk.
Salad, mashed potatoes top Thanksgiving sides in Illinois
Campbell’s has released its annual “State of the Sides” survey to reveal each state’s favorite side dishes on Thanksgiving.
The report said the top dish in the country is mashed potatoes, which is up from second place last year. Stuffing or dressing fell to second place.
In Illinois, mashed potatoes and salad tied for first as the top side dishes. Campbell’s said 67% of Americans prefer the side dishes over the main entrée.
