Man charged with assaulting federal employee

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has charged a man with assaulting a federal employee outside the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse in Chicago.

Prosecutors say 36-year-old Joshua Rowell approached the federal judiciary worker from behind and punched her in the side of the face The victim was hospitalized with a concussion.

Gas tax increasing Tuesday

Starting Tuesday, Illinois’ gas tax will rise to 48.3 cents per gallon.

According to the Illinois Policy Institute, the tax hike will cost drivers an average of $143 per year.

Combined with federal and local fuel taxes, the average tax per gallon in Illinois could be as high as 85 cents.

Economic impacts of evictions

Illinois ranks fourth on a list of states facing the biggest financial impact from evictions.

Highland Cabinetry surveyed rental markets nationwide based on factors including eviction likelihood, average rent costs, and home sizes.

According to the study, Illinois faces a potential rent loss of $208.6 million.
