Man sentenced for shooting officers
A man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for shooting two federal agents and a task force officer who were conducting an investigation in Chicago.
Eugene McLaurin pleaded guilty to three counts of assaulting a federal officer and two counts of using a firearm during a crime of violence. The shootings occurred July 7, 2021, when two agents were driving in an unmarked law enforcement vehicle on the city’s south side.
McLaurin admitted that he mistakenly suspected the officers were members of an opposing gang.
Man sentenced for killing teenager
A Missouri man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of an Illinois teenager.
James Morehouse was convicted of killing 18-year-old Haley Decker of Normal, whose body was found in the Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuge in Pulaski County in March of 2020. Fingerprints were taken after the body was found which confirmed the identity of Decker.
Bobcat season totals
The Illinois bobcat hunting season has come to an end and numbers are in line with last year.
According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, hunters and trappers bagged 370 bobcats, an increase of 3 from 2023. In total, 214 bobcats were killed by hunters, and 156 were killed by trappers.
There were 7,000 bobcat lottery applicants who applied for a permit while only 1,000 were issued.
