Minor injuries reported after Amtrak train derails

A Chicago-bound Amtrak train derailed after hitting a vehicle on the tracks. Amtrak officials said the train was traveling from Pontiac, Michigan, when after 10 p.m., it slammed into a truck on the tracks near New Buffalo. The train then derailed, but remained upright. The train was carrying around 200 passengers at the time, but only minor injuries were reported. No one was in the truck when the collision occurred.

Electric Vehicle Rebate Program runs out of funds

The Illinois Electric Vehicle Rebate Program has apparently run out of funds just weeks after opening. Illinois EPA officials said the number of applications received for the EV rebate program has already surpassed the $12 million approved by the state. The funds were expected to last multiple application cycles through the entire 2024 fiscal year. Moving forward, officials said the program will prioritize “low-income” applicants.

Comptroller gives out turkeys in Cairo

Staff from the office of Illinois State Comptroller Susana Mendoza will distribute 150 turkeys and canned goods for Thanksgiving meals to residents in the southern Illinois community of Cairo on Friday. The meals were made possible by donations collected by Laborers Local 773 in Marion. This is the seventh year the agency has distributed Thanksgiving meals to Cairo families. They have also collected items including canned goods and toiletries that will be donated to the Cairo Women’s Shelter.
