Illinois quick hits: More layoffs in Illinois from UAW strike; Common Cause gives Illinois an ‘F’ on redistricting

More layoffs ahead in Illinois amid UAW strike

A central Illinois factory has announced a round of layoffs. Flex-n-Gate in Effingham said it is shutting its doors because of the United Auto Workers strike in Kentucky. About 400 workers are employed at the factory, which opened in 2021. Nearly 9,000 union employees walked off the job at Ford’s truck plant in Louisville on Wednesday, causing a ripple effect in the industry. Flex-n-Gate said they have no timetable for when the layoffs will end.

Common Cause gives Illinois an ‘F’ on redistricting

A new report that highlights the redistricting process in the U.S. gives Illinois the worst gradient in the country. The anti-gerrymandering organization Common Cause gave Illinois an “F” grade, citing a lack of participation that has routinely impeded the drawing of maps that reflect the state’s demographics. Only six other states received a failing grade.
