More migrant bus ordinances expected

Another Illinois city is expected to pass an ordinance holding bus companies accountable for dropping off migrants. DeKalb is planning to follow the lead of other cities and towns that plan to impose fines and impound buses that drop off migrants unannounced.

Mayor Cohen Barnes noted the incident in Kankakee when a bus dropped off migrants at a truck stop and they were told they were in Chicago. Police found them walking along Interstate 57.

Snow storm possible

A major winter storm could potentially affect Illinois this week. The system is expected to move into Illinois Monday night and most likely will affect a majority of the state.

Snowfall totals vary, but some forecasts call for several inches from north of Metro East to north central Illinois. A blast of cold air is expected to move into the state next week.

AG scholarships announced

More than $192,000 in scholarships are now available for agriculture students for the upcoming school year through the IAA Foundation. Agriculture students and Illinois Farm Bureau members, spouses and children are eligible to apply for 110 college scholarships.

The scholarships range from $1,000 to $7,500. They are awarded based on involvement in extra-curricular activities, community service, academic performance, leadership experiences and an essay.
