Pritzker declares disaster after flooding
A state disaster proclamation has been declared for Boone, Cook, Kane, McHenry and Will counties after severe storms caused flooding and extensive damage last month.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker issued the proclamation Monday.
The move ensures state resources can be directed to support local response and recovery efforts and help determine if the disaster qualifies for federal assistance.
Flags ordered half-staff for Edgar
Flags across Illinois state buildings have been ordered to half-staff until the interment of former Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar, who died Sunday.
The Illinois Department of Central Management Services announced receiving the notice from Gov. J.B. Pritzker that all persons or entities covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act will lower state and U.S. flags to half-staff.
Libraries receive $28 million
Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has announced $28 million in library and literacy grants, using combined state funds and federal dollars from the Library Services and Technology Act.
The awards include more than $18 million to library systems, more than $6.7 million in literacy grants, and nearly $50,000 to veteran’s home libraries.
