Illinois quick hits: Pritzker has concerns over stadium plans; girls arrested for retail theft

Pritzker has concerns over stadium plans

Gov. J.B. Pritzker is voicing concern over how a new Chicago White Sox stadium would be paid for.

The new complex would consist of the stadium, open park spaces and apartment buildings, and would be located in the South Loop. The governor said his staff may meet with the White Sox and developer, Related Midwest, soon to hear the pitch and a plan for how it would affect Illinois residents.

Pritzker said “we need to be careful about how we use public dollars.”

Girls arrested for retail theft

A 12-year old girl and a 17-year old girl are facing charges of retail theft for stealing thousands of dollars in items from several stores in the several Chicago neighborhoods.

The incidents happened between Nov. 15 and this week. The girls were arrested a block away from stores they’re accused of stealing from three times this week.

New trial in murder case denied

A McLean County judge denied Barton McNeil’s latest attempt to get a new trial on charges he killed his 3-year-old daughter in 1998 because he said the evidence likely wouldn’t be legally allowed.

McNeil, who has maintained his innocence, is serving a 99-year prison sentence for the suffocation death of his daughter. McNeil claims his ex-girlfriend is responsible. She is in prison for killing her mother-in-law.
