Pritzker pushes for health insurance reform

Gov. J.B. Pritzker joined doctors, patients, stakeholders and legislators to highlight efforts to reform predatory health insurance practices and protect patients.

The Healthcare Protection Act aims to ban step therapy, and prior authorization for crisis mental health care, and end unchecked rate increases for large group insurance companies. The measure is targeting utilization management, which often forces consumers to obtain permission from their providers before receiving care that doctors have already determined necessary.

Missing persons identified

The Winnebago County coroner has confirmed that skeletal human remains have been found in the missing persons case of Everett Hawley and Clarence Owens.

A car linked to the two men was pulled from a river 47 years after the pair went missing. Fishermen using sonar found an object that appeared to be a car. The two men were business partners and were last seen at a farm auction in 1976.

Lottery winner used children’s birth dates

An Illinois mother woke up to the sounds of her crying baby and realized she had won a $1.4 million lottery jackpot.

The winner, nicknamed “Lucky Mom,” matched all five numbers in the March 6 Lucky Day Lotto using dates from her kids’ birthdays.

According to the Illinois Lottery, almost 550,000 winning Lucky Day Lotto tickets have been sold this month, totaling over $3 million in prizes.
