Rescued from submerged SUV

Two adults and a child were rescued after driving their SUV into a northern Illinois retention pond Tuesday. First responders were called in Naperville and found a white SUV partially submerged.

Three police officers jumped into the water and smashed the windows to pull a man, woman and 2-year-old girl to safety. Police said the accident was caused when the driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake pedal and drove into the water.

Rivian stock down

Shares of electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian Automotive tanked on Tuesday after the company reported it made just under 14,000 deliveries in the fourth quarter, which was below the market’s expectations.

After the close of trading, Rivian’s stock price was at around $21, down 10% for the day. Analysts said failing to reach the delivery numbers led to an increased concern there is a “crack” in demand for the pricey vehicles.

Gas prices down

For the first time in nearly three years, the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Illinois is below $3 per gallon.

GasBuddy reports the statewide average has fallen to $2.99 per gallon, the first time since March 2021. Since then, the average price jumped to $5.62 in June of 2022 before coming back down. GasBuddy reports the national average for a gallon of gas is $3.06.
