Illinois quick hits: Schools alter schedules because of heat; gas prices drop from last month

Schools alter schedules because of heat

The heat wave affecting Illinois this week is causing school districts to alter their schedules to keep students safe during the hot weather.

Danville schools switched to an e-learning day Tuesday. Chicago schools are releasing students early Tuesday, and school officials in Arthur scheduled several days of early dismissal this week due to the heat.

High school sporting events have been postponed throughout Illinois.

The national average for a gallon of gasoline is $3.35.

Rideshare rating confrontation

An Illinois woman says her home and car were damaged after a confrontation with an Uber driver a day after her son gave the driver a one-star rating.

The woman said an unknown man knocked on her door and mentioned the rating. When she refused to open the door, she says the man grabbed a brick and threw it at her window and her car.

The woman filed a report with her local police department. An Uber spokesperson said in a statement that the described conduct is unacceptable.
