Springfield heads to prison for cyberstalking DCFS

A Springfield woman has been sentenced to prison for stalking and threatening case workers from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. 25-year-old Lerin Hughes has been sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for cyberstalking. In 2022, Hughes made multiple threatening posts on Facebook directed towards one employee investigating child abuse. She also sent threatening texts and emails to a contractor working for the agency.

Candidates prepare for ballot challenges after filing deadline

Monday was the final day for candidates for federal, state, county and judicial offices to file ahead of the March primary in Illinois. Two Republicans, University of Illinois law student Thomas Clatterback, and Joshua Loyd, a West Point grad, filed for the 13th Congressional District primary and would face Nikki Budzinski in November. Objections to petitions can be filed through Dec. 11. The final primary ballot will be certified on Jan. 11 during the Illinois State Board of Elections meeting.

Illinois Farm Bureau picks new leader

The Illinois Farm Bureau has announced the election of Brian Duncan, a grain and livestock farmer from Ogle County as the organization’s 16th president. Previously, Duncan served as IFB vice president. Duncan is a graduate of Sauk Valley Community College and raises corn, soybeans, wheat, pigs and cattle on his farm near Polo.
