State Farm home insurance rates rising

Consumer advocacy groups are calling for government oversight of home insurance rates ahead of Bloomington-based State Farm increasing rates 27% next month.

Illinois Public Interest Research Group said 1.5 million Illinois policy holders could see annual premiums increase by $756. Gov. J.B. Pritzker released a statement, saying the increase is unfair and arbitrary.

Gary Howard, 48 of Oak Lawn, was convicted earlier this month. When he attempted to buy a large amount of cocaine in 2018, he was a registered confidential informant, but prosecutors say he was in a corrupt relationship with Special Agent Anthony Sabaini.

Sabaini was sentenced in October to six years in prison.

Inmate gets additional prison time

A federal inmate will be staying behind bars for another seven years.

Federal prosecutors announced Glenn Bowden was already incarcerated in 2023 for a robbery conviction when he mailed a letter threatening to injure a probation officer.

The 64-year-old pleaded guilty to sending the letter last year and was sentenced to an additional seven years to be completed after his sentence for robbery.
