State official quits after reported inflated salary

An assistant in the Illinois Emergency Management Agency has resigned following questions over her salary.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Illinois taxpayers have been paying Amy Gentry $28,000 to $48,000 a month from February through August of this year, double the salary of her boss, Alicia Tate-Nadeau. This follows the resignation of three officials from the agency last July before they were fired for what was called “poor performance and misconduct.”

‘Crash and grab’ burglaries

Chicago police have issued a community alert warning businesses about a rash of crash-and-grab burglaries. Police said there have been at least four such burglaries in the past three days in various parts of the city.

In all of the incidents, police report the suspects ram storefronts with stolen vehicles to break in and then steal merchandise before taking off in waiting vehicles. Chicago police are urging store owners to repair broken windows, doors and locks.
