Illinois Quick Hits: Storms leave nearly 300K households without power

(The Center Square) – As severe storms and extreme heat struck Illinois and neighboring states Monday afternoon, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency announced hundreds of thousands of residents were left without power in the greater Chicagoland area.

A peak of 285,838 customers were reported to be impacted as of 2 p.m. on Monday, according to real-time ComEd data.

ComEd said its working to restore services, prioritizing downed live wires, damaged transmission lines, critical facilities, high density housing, followed by smaller neighborhood outages and individual homes.

Impacted customers should check their online ComEd account if looking for an estimate on when services will return to normal.

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS BEGINS SEARCH FOR NEXT PRESIDENT

The University of Illinois System Board of Trustees announced Monday it is beginning its search to find the next president of the university system that spans from Chicago to downstate.

The search is being conducted nationwide for a successor to current President Tim Killeen, the university system’s 20th president.

Killeen announced he will be stepping down from his position at the end of June next year, after over a decade in the role.

The 127th Grand American World Trapshooting Championships are scheduled from Wednesday, July 29 through Saturday, August 8 at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta. The Grand American is the largest shooting event of its kind.
