Illinois quick hits: Sullivan guard members return from overseas deployment

Sullivan guard members return

After six months supporting U.S. Special Operations Command Africa, the Illinois Army National Guard’s 634th Brigade Support Battalion Forward Logistics Element returned home Sunday.

The more than a dozen soldiers who are part of the Sullivan, Illinois-based unit were split between operations in Africa and Germany.

Pritzker signs bill banning AI therapy

One of the 124 bills Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced he signed Friday is a measure limiting the use of artificial intelligence in psychotherapy services. AI can be used for administrative and supplementary support services, but not in therapeutic decision-making.

Effective immediately, state regulators can investigate suspected violations that could come with a $10,000 fine.

New trauma-informed training requirements for police

The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board says it is starting the implementation of new training standards set to take effect in the new year after a bill was signed into law.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed Senate Bill 1195 Friday to enhance trauma-informed training requirements for law enforcement officers across the state with a target on interactions with victims of sexual assault and abuse.
