Illinois quick hits: Suspect charged in stabbing rampage; TransUnion layoffs impact Illinois; electric buses sidelined

Suspect charged in stabbing rampage

A Rockford man has been charged in Wednesday’s stabbing rampage in northern Illinois that left four people dead and seven others wounded.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office said 22-year-old Christian Soto faces 13 felony charges, including murder and attempted murder. Police said the victims who died included a 15-year-old girl and a 63-year-old woman. The U.S. Postal Service has confirmed one of the victims was a letter carrier.

TransUnion layoffs impact Illinois

Credit reporting giant TransUnion is laying off more of its Illinois workforce than previously announced. The company originally reported that 339 employees would be laid off, but an additional 300 are also receiving pink slips in Illinois.

The cost-savings initiative includes moving more U.S. jobs to its overseas operations. Illinois is taking the brunt of the moves, with reported job cuts amounting to about 5% of TransUnion’s workforce.

Electric buses sidelined

The mass transit company that provides transportation in Bloomington-Normal said most of their electric buses will remain sidelined after their parts supplier went bankrupt last year.

Connect Transit owns 12 electric buses, but only two are running routes as the remainder wait for repairs. In the meantime, there is a reduced route schedule and some of the broken down electric buses have been replaced with diesel-powered buses.
