Illinois quick hits: Teen murder suspect turns self in; Titanic exhibit flooded

Teen murder suspect turns self in

A 16-year-old boy accused of gunning down a retired Chicago police officer was on home confinement at the time of the murder and had more than a half-dozen violations after being placed on electronic monitoring.

Lazarius Watt turned himself in over the weekend and has been charged as an adult, with first-degree murder in the shooting death of the veteran lawman. The teen was set to be arraigned in juvenile court on a carjacking charge on Tuesday.

One Illinois Boston Market remains

Boston Market restaurants have been quietly closing over the past few months in Illinois. Now there is just one store in operation in the state.

The final location is in Melrose Park, where workers confirmed they are not closing. The Washington Post reported on the company’s legal problems earlier this year, with landlords claiming unpaid rent and investigations into overdue bills and wages.

Titanic exhibit flooded

Just over a year after its debut, the Titanic exhibit at the Volo Museum in Lake County was inundated with water over the weekend. The flooding forced the closure of the museum and quick action by staff to save the historic items.

Security footage shared by the museum shows water encroaching the artifacts. Museum officials said the source of the water is a “total mystery.”
