Truck driver charged

A truck driver is now facing multiple criminal charges in connection with a crash that killed a DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputy.

Nathan Sweeney of DeKalb is charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI in the death of Deputy Christina Musil. Her police SUV was parked on the shoulder in Waterman last Thursday night when Illinois State Police said Sweeney’s semi ran off the road and rear-ended her vehicle.

The visitation and funeral for Musil will be held Thursday afternoon.

Tuberculosis cases reported

Chicago health officials have confirmed that there is a “small number” of tuberculosis cases among migrants.

The Chicago Department of Public Health said the cases were reported in shelters in the city, however did not disclose the exact number. Tuberculosis is an infectious bacterial disease that mainly affects the lungs.

The news comes as measles cases in the Chicago area surpassed 50.

Eclipse data to be collected

Researchers from the University of Illinois will be joining scientists from across North America during the April solar eclipse.

Data will be recorded on how the total solar eclipse affects Earth’s atmosphere and ecosystem. All the data from the U of I will then be sent to a global database to be included in the wide-scale experiment.

The solar eclipse will happen April 8.
