Illinois quick hits: Uncertain budget vote; Jordan’s mansion finally sells

Uncertain budget vote

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has postponed the city council vote on his 2025 budget. Aldermen were scheduled to vote Friday on the $17.3 billion budget package.

According to reports from numerous media outlets, Johnson is short by 26 votes to pass the budget and knew he was destined to lose. The proposal includes a $68.5 million property tax increase as well as a $165 million hike in fees and services. The city council has until the end of the year to approve the budget.

Jordan’s mansion finally sells

After nearly 13 years on the market, Chicago Bulls basketball star Michael Jordan has finally sold his Highland Park mansion.

The sale of the 56,000-square-foot property closed this week for $9.5 million, far below what Jordan initially asked for. Jordan originally listed the property in 2012 for $29 million, but reduced the price to less than $15 million in 2015.
