Unemployment unchanged

The Illinois Department of Employment Security announced that the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.7% in January. The national unemployment rate was 3.7% in January, also unchanged from the previous month.

The number of unemployed workers was 305,500, up over 7% over the same month one year ago. In January, the industry sectors with the largest over-the-month job gains in Illinois included government and educational and health services.

House approves Chicago School Board elections

The Illinois House has voted to approve a plan agreed by the Chicago Teachers Union and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson on how school boards are assembled.

The passed measure has voters choosing 10 school board members with Johnson appointing the other 10.

Critics wanted to see the 20 board members elected all at once, including State Rep. Blaine Wilhour, who called the measure a gift to the Chicago Teachers Union.

Wrigley among best concessions

A new study ranks the concessions at Wrigley Field and Guaranteed Rate Field in the top 10 in the country.

OntarioBets.com said the White Sox have the sixth best concessions, and Wrigley Field has the ninth best. The number of concession stands and the price of beer and hot dogs factored into the ranking.

The study said the best concessions were in Seattle, while the worst were in Oakland.
