Illinois quick hits: Union president’s unpaid bills; CosMc’s opens in Bolingbrook

Union president’s unpaid bills

The head of the Chicago Teachers Union has not paid thousands of dollars in utility bills since last summer.

According to Illinois Policy Institute, Stacy Gates was behind $5,100 in her water, sewer and garbage services bills before starting a payment plan last July, then immediately defaulted on the plan. As of Nov. 7, she still owed over $5,500 to the city.

Gates’ salary to be the president of the CTU is $289,000. Her tenure has been filled with controversy, including recently being accused of taking a homestead tax exemption on an Indiana home that she didn’t live in.

More details are emerging in the September murders of four people in Romeoville. Police say a man who was the prime suspect in the shooting deaths had a relationship with the adult female victim.

Nathaniel Huey, Jr. was immediately identified as a suspect in the deaths of a couple and their two children. Huey and his fiancé died in a fiery crash in Oklahoma days later when police tried to pull them over.

CosMc’s opens in Bolingbrook

McDonald’s new spinoff restaurant officially opened to the public Friday in a Chicago suburb.

CosMc’s, which has caused quite a stir on social media, opened in Bolingbrook. The eatery will feature a couple items from the regular McDonald’s menu, but also new items as well. CosMc’s drink menu is being touted as “brand new otherworldly beverage creations.”
