Winter outlook update

The National Weather Service has released an updated winter outlook for December through February and more snow could be in store for Illinois.

A predicted weak La Niña pattern increases the odds of a wetter winter with more numerous storm systems moving across the Great Lakes region. The agency also predicts near normal temperatures for Illinois.

Comptroller distributing turkeys

Illinois State Comptroller Susana A. Mendoza and staff will distribute 150 turkeys and canned goods for Thanksgiving meals to residents in Cairo on Monday, Nov. 25.

The event is made possible by donations from Laborers’ Local 773 in Marion. This is the eighth year the Illinois Office of Comptroller has distributed Thanksgiving meals to Cairo families.

IOC employees in Chicago and Springfield have also collected items, including canned goods and toiletries, for the Cairo Women’s Shelter.

Blue Man Group leaving Chicago

Blue Man Group has announced that it will be ending its nearly 30-year run in Chicago. The group’s managing director made the announcement that the last show will be Sunday, Jan. 5.

The show, which features three mute “Blue Men,” is known for its obscure and comical stage productions that combine music and art. The group expanded over the years to include resident productions in Las Vegas, Orlando and China.
