Illinois voters to see Pritzker, Bailey rematch in November

(The Center Square) – Illinois voters will have a rematch in the race for governor after Darren Bailey beat out three other candidates in Tuesday evening’s Republican primary election.

Just as votes were being counted and before the race was called for Bailey, during a campaign event in Chicago, incumbent Gov. J.B. Pritzker predicted that Republicans would select the same candidate as they did four years ago.

“Illinois Republicans are offering voters a destructive alliance of cowardly, doomed grifters who recklessly embrace ruin,” Pritzker said. “Yes, folks, this is the fight of our future.”

He went on to criticize Bailey.

“Remember him. Bailey wants to be the Donald Trump of Illinois,” Pritzker said. “He wants to lower the minimum wage, lower the minimum wage. He wants to take away a woman’s right to choose.”

Later in the evening, Bailey said Pritzker has increased financial pain on Illinoisans.

“He raised taxes, he raised fees,” Bailey said. “Property taxes exploded”

On his 60th birthday, Bailey said Illinois doesn’t have a revenue problem, it has a leadership problem.

“Illinois doesn’t need another four years of a governor that decrees from top down and actually looks down on the people that make this state work,” Bailey said.

Bailey beat three other candidates, including Ted Dabrowski and two others. Dabrowski conceded, thanking his running mate, his family and his supporters.
