Increases of 14.8% to general fund, 4.5% to sales tax revenue considered

(The Center Square) – Proposals to raise the general fund 14.8% and sales tax revenue 4.5% will be heard Tuesday in the first of two public hearings and a reading of the 2026 budget for Bossier City Council.

The agenda is dotted with 38 items of new business.

Chief Administrative Officer Amanda Nottingham presented the proposed 2026 Bossier budget in late September. Two public hearings are required in the approval process.

Despite an increase in revenue, expenses are projected to be up 4.29% in the general fund, with total expenditures across all funds at $283 million.

Under new business, 28 items relate to the proposed budget. The council will hear first readings on each, including the budgets for the General Fund, Property Tax, Community Development, Diversion Program, Civic Center, Hotel Motel Taxes, Disaster Reserve, Fire Improvements and Operations, and Jail and Municipal Building Fund.

Apart from the budget-related agenda items under new business, the City Council will consider appropriating $100,000 from the Hotel Motel Tax Fund for professional marketing services and a transfer of $13 million from the 2018 LCDA Bond fund to other capital funds. This ordinance also proposed the transfer of current projects from the 2018 LCDA Bond Fund.

LCDA is the acronym for Louisiana Community Development Authority.

An ordinance amending the Streets and Drainage Fund is also on the agenda. If approved, this would amend the budget by $300,000 to increase spending for unplanned street and drainage projects.
