Inflation Rises Again in August as Rent and Food Costs Climb

(AURN News) — Inflation rose last month, with fresh produce and rent leading the increase.

Prices rose 0.4% in August, according to federal data — twice the rate seen in July. Over the past year, inflation has climbed 2.9%.

Food prices climbed 0.5%, while fruits and vegetables jumped 1.6% — the biggest monthly gain in that category. Rent was up again, with the shelter index rising 0.4%. Energy costs increased 0.7%.

The government’s monthly inflation report came out this week with no big surprises — just more signs that price pressures are still lingering.
