Judge Blocks Trump Administration Directing California National Guard

(AURN News) — A federal judge has halted the Trump administration’s use of California National Guard troops in Los Angeles, ruling that the White House overstepped its authority. The decision, handed down Wednesday, orders federal officials to stop directing Guard soldiers and returns full control to California leaders.
The conflict began when the administration deployed Guard members without authorization from Gov. Gavin Newsom, sparking outrage among state and local officials who said the move violated states’ rights. Critics argued that Washington was improperly using the Guard for operations such as border patrol support and street patrols in Los Angeles without state approval.
The judge agreed, calling the deployment an illegal overreach that violates federal law governing National Guard authority. California officials praised the decision, saying it protects state control over their own military forces and prevents federal interference.
Under the ruling, Guard troops must now follow state directives rather than federal orders. The White House plans to appeal, but for now, the ruling marks a significant win for California.
