Justice wins West Virginia Senate primary

(The Center Square) – Jim Justice will be the Republican candidate for Senate in West Virginia while Patrick Morrisey won the Republican primary for governor as a shift approaches in the state’s political sphere.

Justice will be vying to move from governor to the replacement of U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin after receiving nearly 62% of the vote compared to nearly 27% for top contender Alex Mooney.

Morrisey, the current attorney general, received 33% of the vote compared to 28% for Moore Capito, 20% for Chris Miller and 16% for Mac Warner.

Justice will face Democrat Glenn Eliiott, who received 46% of the vote in the Democratic primary, and Morrisey will face Democrat Steven Wendelin and Mountain Party candidate Chase Linko-Looper, both uncontested in the primary.

Current Treasurer Riley Moore received 45% of the vote to become the Republican candidate for the 2nd Congressional District for U.S. House, topping 20% for Joe Earley. Carol Miller received 63% to Derrick Evans’ 37% in the 1st Congressional. Moore will face Democrat Steven Wendelin while Miller will face Chris Bob Reed, who received 56% of the vote compared to Jim Umberger’s 44%.

Donald Trump won the Republican presidential primary with 88% of the vote to Nikki Haley’s 9% while Joe Biden received 71% of the Democratic vote compared to 11% for Jason Michael Palmer.
