Kaepernick Initiative to Fund Second Autopsy in Mississippi Student’s Death

(AURN News) — Civil rights attorney Ben Crump announced that Colin Kaepernick’s “Know Your Rights Camp Autopsy Initiative” will fund a second independent autopsy for Demartravion “Trey” Reed, a Delta State University student who was found dead, hanging from a tree on campus Sept. 15, according to USA Today.

The Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Reed’s death a suicide by hanging, though toxicology results are still pending.

Reed’s family, however, has raised concerns about conflicting accounts and incomplete details.

In a press release, Crump’s office said, “Peace will come only by getting to the truth. We thank Colin Kaepernick for supporting this grieving family.”

Kaepernick, who last played in the NFL in 2016, is best known for kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice.
