L.A. Protests Persist as Immigration Raids and Guard Deployments Escalate

Protests in Los Angeles over President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown entered a third day on Sunday, with more demonstrations expected, according to The New York Times.

Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard troops to the city — against Gov. Gavin Newsom’s objections — though many troops kept their distance as federal agents and clashed with protesters. leaders, including Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, condemned the deployment as inflammatory.

Protests began Friday after immigration raids in the city’s Garment District and escalated with , tear gas and reports of violence. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, initially hesitant, later said the situation may warrant reassessment.

More than 150 arrests have been made in L.A., with dozens more in San Francisco.
