LASD: Man who defended home from armed intruders could get his concealed carry permit back

(The Center Square) – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says a man who went viral for defending his home with a pistol from two armed intruders could get his revoked concealed carry permit back following the incident if he follows through on certain protocols.

Father and business owner Vince Ricci claims in a new video for the NRA that LASD told him he lost his permit for “yelling” at the officers who arrived at the crime scene, but LASD denies that claim, saying Ricci was out of compliance for his permit and can be “immediately reinstated” if he properly follows concealed carry “protocols and guidelines.”

“After successfully defending my home and my family and my 5-month-old child, California has now decided to suspend my Second Amendment,” Ricci says in the NRA video.

Ricci engaged in a shootout outside his home with alleged robbers who tried to ambush him after coming home from the gym and opening his front door. Security cameras captured the entire incident on film, from the approach of the armed intruders to Ricci’s exchange of bullets with them as they fired at him and fled.

“We recognize that this incident was extremely traumatic and startling for the Ricci family and we hope the individuals responsible for this crime are arrested and held accountable,” LASD said in a statement to The Center Square. “The CCW permit may be immediately reinstated as long as the permit holder has also followed all required CCW policies (i.e. proper notifications, use of properly documented weapon, etc.) … We have been in contact with the Ricci family and have been providing information to them about CCW protocols and guidelines in an effort to ensure their Second Amendment rights are protected.”

Ricci’s use of his firearm at his own property to defend himself is legal without a concealed carry permit, but without the permit, he is no longer legally able to carry a hidden, loaded firearm past his own property.

Concealed carry permits take months to secure in California and require a high degree of background and skills checks, especially in Los Angeles.
