Lawmakers Launch New Environmental Justice Caucus

(AURN News) — “So many of our communities have been disinvested in systemically. We know this around cities, but it’s also true in the rural areas of our communities, in our indigenous communities, so many places have not seen real investment in their water systems or utility systems, even in like the basics of where they can find jobs,” one lawmaker said.

That frustration is now turning into action. On Capitol Hill, Reps. Summer Lee, D-Pa., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., officially launched the People’s Environmental Justice Caucus.

The caucus is aimed at tackling pollution, climate impacts, and what lawmakers describe as decades of federal neglect in Black, brown and low-income communities.

The caucus is designed to bring grassroots voices into federal policymaking and help shape a new version of the Environmental Justice for All Act.

Lawmakers say environmental protections have been rolled back under President Donald Trump, leaving frontline communities more vulnerable to pollution and climate-related health risks.
