Lawmakers Take to Social Media to Fight Texas Gerrymandering

“We will not relent to an authoritarian president who wants to steal and racially gerrymander our Black and brown districts,” said Texas state Rep. Ron Reynolds.

“This is the fight we’re in. This is the fight you’re in. We didn’t start this fight — Donald Trump started it. He asked the Texas Legislature to get rid of your voice. I’m not going to do that,” said Texas state Rep. Ramon Romero.

Each explained why they fled the state in an effort to keep Republicans from gerrymandering Texas’ congressional map.

Lawmakers have been taking to social media to get their voices heard. State Rep. Ana Maria Rodriguez Ramos says they’re fighting to protect millions of Texans:

“Summoned to go to the Capitol to vote for this most racist redistricting bill. We are fighting back and saying no to Trump, no to the GOP deal,” Ramos said.

Meanwhile, Gov. Greg Abbott is threatening to have the Democratic lawmakers removed if they don’t show up.
