Manhunt Ends: Suspect in Minnesota Lawmaker Shootings in Custody

Gov. Tim Walz announced that late Sunday, authorities arrested 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter in rural Sibley County, ending a two-day manhunt that mobilized more than 100 officers across southwest Minnesota.

Boelter is accused of fatally shooting former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and critically wounding state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, in two pre-dawn attacks.

Boelter masqueraded as a officer to enter both homes, then fled after a brief shootout. In his vehicle, officers discovered a hit list of Democratic legislators and “No Kings” protest flyers, raising fears of further politically motivated .

Boelter now faces two counts each of second-degree murder and attempted murder. Federal charges loom.
