Marjorie Taylor Greene leaving Congress in January

(The Center Square) – U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said Friday evening she is resigning from Congress effective Jan. 5, 2026, citing personal attacks by President Donald Trump behind her announcement.

Trump labeled Greene a “traitor” in posts on Truth Social and said he no longer endorsed her.

Greene said in social media posts she was receiving death threats for her stances.

“I have too much self-respect and dignity, love my family way too much and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms,” Greene said in her statement posted on X. “And in turn be expected to defend the President against impeachment after he hatefully dumped tens of millions of dollars against me and then tried to destroy me.”

Greene was first elected in 2020 and reelected in 2022 to serve Northwest Georgia’s 14th district.
