McNally to miss opening weeks of session after ankle surgery

(The Center Square) – Tennessee Lt. Gov. Randy McNally will not be presiding over the Senate when the Legislature returns to session Jan. 9.

Instead, the Republican will be at home in Oak Ridge after ankle surgery, and Speaker Pro Tempore Ferrell Haile, along with Deputy Speakers Dawn White, Shane Reeves and John Stevens will preside over the floor session.

The absence is expected to last the “first few weeks” of the upcoming legislative session, his office said.

“On the orders of my doctor, I will be finishing up my recovery and physical therapy at my home in Oak Ridge,” McNally said in a statement. “While I will not be physically present, I will be monitoring proceedings remotely and will be in daily, if not hourly, contact with Senate Leadership and staff. I look forward to returning to work in person as soon as I am able.”

Calendars for the session are not yet set beyond a noon meeting of the full Senate on Jan. 9
